What three things, if you stopped doing them, would actually contribute to the growth of your congregation?

Stop doing things just because you’ve “always” done them…that’s one, two, and three in my book.
In my particular congregation…I think if we stopped the continual adding of programs, culled them, and did fewer things more deeply, that would be immensely helpful. Also, if we stopped being afraid to speak openly of our progressive faith in this conservative community. Oh…and it would be helpful if we stopped expecting the newcomers to find their own way “in” to church life, without help. 🙂
1) Announcing everything going on during Worship
2) Focusing the majority of our attention on getting folks to enter the building rather than meeting people where they are.
3) Stop joining numerous committees to fill leadership gaps. Leave room for new blood to feel like they need to step up. We can all be the hero.
stop talking about making our church building accessible (and actually doing it).
stop assuming all of our members and friends are (or will be) college educated.
stop being afraid to clap when we sing spirituals
1. Stop acting as though leadership and stewardship were separate functions.
2. Stop thinking how we do things are the only way to do them. Ask if we were starting a new church today, what would it look like and who would it try to reach.
3. Stop being shy about telling our story to the larger community, and start expecting more of each other in time and talent, beyond the core that already do much.
